Our story

A Car, a Family, and Porto

Some tours begin with a booking.
Ours began with friendship.

1968

It all started when a few friends came to visit Porto and, as often happens in this city, a simple visit turned into long lunches, good conversations and the desire to show them everything.

There was only one problem: how do you properly show Porto to someone you care about? The answer was waiting outside — our Volkswagen Beetle.

Windows down, everyone squeezed in, no Google Maps, no reviews and certainly no online bookings. Just a little car driving through the streets of Porto. They crossed the historic centre, followed the Douro towards the Atlantic, stopped whenever the view deserved it, and discovered the city the way locals do: slowly.

A tradition is born

That first drive was never supposed to become anything. But then another friend visited. And another. And the Beetle went out again. Over the years, showing Porto from this little Volkswagen became something of a family tradition.

Three generations later

The city changed. The streets changed. Our family grew. And the Beetle stayed.

For three generations, it has been part of our family memories: summer drives, celebrations, photographs, stories and countless kilometres around Porto.

Today

More than half a century after those first friends came to visit, we decided to continue the tradition. Only now, you are the friend visiting Porto.

There is still no rush. We still prefer the scenic road. We still stop when the view deserves a photograph. And we still believe the best way to discover Porto isn't necessarily from the window of a tour bus.

Sometimes, all you need is an old Volkswagen, the roof open, and someone who loves this city showing you the way.

Your private driver & local host will take you beyond the obvious tourist route, sharing stories, local recommendations and some of our favourite places along the way. And because you can't truly know Porto without tasting it, we'll stop at a carefully selected local spot for a relaxed Portuguese tasting experience.

How many people fit in the Beetle?

The Beetle convertible comfortably seats up to three passengers: two in the back seat and one up front next to the driver. Ideal for couples, friends, families or a small group. Larger groups can book two cars — just ask us on WhatsApp.

What happens if it rains?

The Beetle's soft top goes up in seconds. Tours run rain or shine, and we'll always suggest the best option for the weather on the day.

Can I choose my own route?

Yes — every tour is private, so we're happy to adjust the route to places you want to see, within the tour's time and area.

Do your drivers speak English?

Yes, our drivers speak English and Portuguese, and can get by in French too.

Where does the tour start?

It depends on the tour: Porto Essentials meets at Praça do Marquês, while Porto to the Atlantic, Yellow Hour Sunset Beetle and Tour à la Carte depart from the Ribeira, next to Palácio da Bolsa. Porto & Douro already includes pickup at your hotel or Airbnb, and we can add hotel/Airbnb pickup to any other tour for an extra €20.

How do I pay?

Payment is made online, securely, through a Stripe payment link. We send the link by WhatsApp at the time of booking, and your tour is confirmed as soon as it's paid.
